Am working on a client’s Lenovo x300 (I do this for a living!), getting it all spruced up and ready for the scary and exciting world of the Internet. Decided to post a few fun videos of this amazing piece of computer architecture. I’ve seen the Macbook Air. I’ve now worked on the Lenovo x300. Dang, there’s no comparison. Macbook Air feels like it will break any minute. The Lenovo is solid like all the other Lenovos I’ve worked on, starting with the T20. It weighs a few more ounces than the Macbook Air, yet has 3 USB ports (to 1 USB on Macbook Air), 1 Gigabit Ethernet port (to 0 Ethernet ports on Macbook Air), one replaceable 10 hour battery (to 5 hour non-replaceable battery on Macbook Air) and one great DVD burner (to 0 drives on Macbook Air).
Hands down, I’d recommend the Lenovo x300 – if you have $3,000!
There’s a technical glitch with AVG Anti-Virus free – update today – August 16th. It seems to be affecting all users – worldwide. Read more about it on this forum.
My guess is that Grisoft is working feverishly to fix this problem, as they have millions of users.
Until that time, you have at least 3 choices:
1. Wait at your computer for the update, all night long, for the next update which will fix this problem, most likely on Sunday, 8/17. 2. Fix the update manually – a bit technical. 3. Go for a bike ride or a walk – return and hopefully it will be fixed.
For #1 & #3, if you don’t do the update here, you’re still protected. Your just about 5-6 days out of date, which should be fine.
For #2, do the following:
a. On your desktop, create a folder called “AVG update.” b. Go to this web page and download just the first 3 items shown below – don’t download the forth, this is causing problem.
(Double click image to see a bigger size)
c. Make sure to download each of these files to the desktop folder “AVG Update. d. Double click on AVG icon by the time/clock. e. Go to “Tools, Update from Directory.” f. Click on “AVG Update” folder.
Don’t run another update until AVG says it’s time to. Otherwise, you’ll get the same problem all over again.
Questions? First try Grisoft to see if there is an update on problem. If not, go to www.ITMComputing.com – fill out our contact form.
Blackberry just keeps innovating and is slowly creeping up on the iPhone’s territory. You’ll see from our sister site ITM Rumors that Blackberry will be releasing a phone without a keypad called the Blackberry Thunder. Should be out before year’s end. They’ve now released a cool new piece of free software called the Blackberry Media Sync. Download, install and pick iTunes playlists to put on Blackberry. You can sync these or have Blackberry do a random selection of music. You control how much music goes on Blackberry. You definitely want to have a memory card for this operation!
Strangely enough, this cool new software is only supported on the Windows platform. You need XP/Vista, the latest version of iTunes and a “wired” connection to your computer. And while you’re having fun with your Blackberry – get a free Olympics 8/8/8 Application to follow the games!
