Great Gift for Holidays – a Netbook

Over this past year, there’s been a new class of Notebooks called “netbooks.” It’s short for “Interent Notebooks.” They are very portable comptuers (most are 3 pounds and less than 2″ thick) – with full functionality of a regular notebook, but usually have limited hard disk space and aren’t speed demons that can be used for gaming. They are primarily used for Internet, Email and Chatting. They usually do not contain a CD/DVD drive. The usually come in colors and sometimes are even designer ones (as in HP Vivienne Tam model).
These are all Windows Netbooks. There are STRONG rumors that Apple will come out with its own netbook next month – but you never know until they release it at MacWorld. Sadly, the only rumor I’ve heard is that there will be a new Mac Mini – ho, hum.
Listed below is a set of notebooks on the market. As I get experience with them, I’ll be writing reviews.
Acer – only $99 at Radio Shack – Get on 3 G network (must sign up for 2 years).

Acer One $372 with Windows XP and 8.9″ screen

Dell Inspiron Mini 12 starts at $499 Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux. Lots of cool cases!!

HP Mini 1000 starts at $359 Windows XP

HP Vivienne Tam Netbook Fun Review Great Video (actually a custom HP Mini 100) starts at $699 Windows XP

Lenovo S10 (White,Blue,Red,Pink,Black,Silver) start at $349 Windows XP

Chrome – bye bye Firefox and Internet Explorer?

I highly recommend Google’s Chrome. Especially, since it’s now out of beta. It’s super speedy and takes up so little resources. Right now I have FF and Chrome open with about 10 tabs. FF takes up 309 MB ram. Chrome takes up 73 MB of RAM. Plus I love the fact when you open new tab you see your most popular 10 sites. It’s so swift and easy to use. I have the same feeling I did when I first used Firefox.
What does chrome look like? Take a look at my screen!
A couple of “goctchas”
1. There is no support for Mac or Linux yet.
2. There are no “plug-ins”.
What do you think?

What’s on top of your iTunes/iPhone list?

Mobile Crunch has done an excellent job of detailing the top iPhone Apps of 2008. It’s incredible how many appts are just in the top 10 categories!! Rumor has it there are close to 10,000 apps. My overall favorites are Facebook and Pandora Radio (make your own radio stations – on the web as well!).

I’ve tried many – and generally don’t find many surprises. Since the iPhone is primarily a small computer, these trends seem to mimic what’s popular on PCs. Can’t wait to see the Gphone list!

Make sure to check out the iTunes Store for a “best of” of every category – books, music, games and lots more!

Computers and Pets – Pets that Hate Computers

Pet lovers love their pets. Unfortunately, for the pets, sometimes the pet lovers lover their computers and printers equally as much (or so the pets think). So, for a bit of levity, we’ll see what happens when the pets strike back!

Kitty just doesn’t like that stuff called paper!

Wierner Dog – Hates those Multi-function Printers!

Kitty doesn’t want paper coming her way. Then her guardian
would read paper and ignore her!
