Crashplan Home is shutting down, alternative backup solutions

Crashplan Home is shutting down, alternative backup solutions

First off, if you don’t have Crashplan or don’t need a new on-line backup, disregard this notice.
Second, if you don’t have on-line backup solution, you may want to follow recommendations below.
As most of you know, Crashplan Home will be discontinued as of 10/18/2018. They are not accepting new clients. They’ve only been offering 1 year contracts for last couple of years, so all of you will be expired by then.
Crashplan will continue to service you until your contract is up – so there is only urgency if your contract has expired or if your contract is expiring soon. If your Crashplan icon is a RED house – then your contract has expired.
To determine when your contract is up, double click on Green House icon (in Windows by clock in lower right corner, in Mac, upper right corner by the time). Once you get there, click on Settings on the left, then click on Account tab. Here you will see when you’re backup expires.
If you’re the kind of person who’s very organized and following your calendar, then I would suggest converting to new plan 1 month before your plan expires – for example, I would convert to new plan on 2/10/2018. If you forget things or hate all things tech, I would migrate soon after reading this email and forget the loss of a few dollars.

Best 2 Backup Options

iDrive is an excellent solution if you have multiple computers under the same account. It’s $69.50/year for 2 TB which is usually enough for most users, after the incredible $6.95/year – for first year. There are more pricing plans you can view. If a referral code is asked for – use “veg4life.”
BackBlaze is extremely highly rated. It’s good if you tons of data and only 1 computer – as it has unlimited backup and is only $50/computer/year. They even have a very cool “paid for” option to restore data back on USB Stick or Hard Drive. They have a free 15-day trial version.

A third option

Definitely the most pricey is to convert from Crashplan Home to Crashplan Pro – with 75% cost saving for first year, then 10/machine per month – or $120/year/machine

I do not recommend Carbonite. There is nothing wrong with the service. It has a mid-range of services, where iDrive and Blackbaze have tons of more features for same price.
If you want to look at a more thorugh comparision with all the services – go over to Backblaze’s website or iDrive’s website.
Use referral code: veg4life on iDrive
