Download Your Facebook History
So much chatter about safety and security these days! The FDA’s putting pictures of cancer patients on the packs of cigarettes; the TSA is feeling up everyone who won’t allow them to see them naked-ish on an X-ray; and if Facebook isn’t in the news for getting trial defendants or employees in hot water, you can crawl out from under that rock now…or maybe you’re thinking of going back under that rock.
Maybe you’re thinking of letting Big Brother, I mean Facebook go and all of your friends are moving to one of the various new or experimental social networks. Maybe you’re wondering what those applications are really collecting when you clicked “Allow” to take that “What kind of smelly soap user are you?” quiz. Maybe you’re just getting weary of having all your history out on Facebook. Either way, it’s a great idea to Download Your Facebook History and see, well, what you’ve been up to lately. Here’s what you do:
Steps
Log on to Facebook
Click on “Settings, Account Settings”
Click on “Learn More” next to “Download Your Information”
Type your password in to verify you have access to your account.
You will then get an email sent back to you. This will be sent to the email address you use to log in to Facebook. It came to me in about 5 minutes.
Now, it’s up to you. You can host this information somewhere else, where it won’t be shared with the world, if that’s what you want to do. You can host it on your own website. You can just keep it for your records.
Once you get all this information, if you want to “start over”, you can deactivate your account/delete your account knowing you have all your photos, videos and comments.

This is the most useful blog article I’ve read all year! Thanks Clyde!
This is an awesome feature! I am all over FB and didn’t know about it. Thanks for sharing it Clyde!
Hmmm. Do I really want to see what I’ve been up to? I have mixed feelings about that. What does that tell me? I’m sure this is a good thing to do, but I think I am going to pass for now.
Interesting idea. Now sure WHY I would do that, but I will check it out later today or late tonight and see what it looks like. I guess the Starting Over idea has some value, so I will give it some thought.
As we all know, even if I delete it from FB, it still exists somewhere out there on someone’s server.
Thanks for the great HOW TO, Clyde. Facebook Security is a hot topic that is for sure!
Great How-To Clyde, especially with security being such a hot button topic these days. I’m not sure what value it is to see everything I’ve been doing in FB, other than just being interesting, but it is good to know everything is retrievable if I want it. How have others been using their info once they get it? I’d be curious to know!
The great news about this is you can be re-born on Facebook. Know FB, they will keep on server – not sure about indefinitely. It’s a great way to “preserve” a moment in time.
One of the best uses, Erika, is to download all the photos you have. Many send photo to their FB account, then delete them off phone, never having a permanent record.
Wow – Adryenn – know how many blogs you must read, this is a very HIGH complement. Thanks!
Cool Stuff Clyde, I dont know how you figure this all out, but I know people will want to know this. If only for the historical fact trivia quota of their own history. What next ? others will be able to download our history? Can I delete my history?

Excellent article, Clyde, really! Thank you for providing this information – as well as a few chuckles. What kind of smelly soap user are YOU?
Jennifer,
Yes, you can delete history. . . but, at a cost. You’d download your history. Delete your account. Then start over with new account.
