This
& That Computer Tips!
Q: I just lost my “Bold” icon in Word/Excel? Is my program broken?
A: Nope, you've just lost your formatting tool bar. Right click on any tool bar
at the top of the page and put a check next to “Formatting” to display the
Formatting tool bar. This will have you bolding in no time!
Q: I'm using Windows and I just got this message: "Invalid system disk -
Replace disk and press any key." I'm completely freaked out. Is my
computer broken? Do I need to reformat my hard drive?
A: No problem. You've left a diskette in your a drive. The reasons this message
comes up is your computer is trying to boot/start up using a non-system floppy
diskette.
Recommending that someone subscribe to this newsletter is easy...just send
this e-mail address to them:
mailto:thisandthatcomputertips-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
. They send an e-mail and they're on the list.
Q: There are groups for M/S , and Windows users... is there an Internet
discussion list???
A: Yes, there are loads of them! There's a great site which has more discussion
lists then you can imagine: www.topica.com
. The discussion you'd be interested in would be at http://www.topica.com/channels/internet/
. Happy surfing!
Q: I just installed AOL 7.0 and I'm having tons of problems. When I play a CD,
my system crashes. Also, AOL 7.0 seems slower then AOL 6.0. What do you
suggest?
A: I've spoken with many folks regarding this issue. It sounds like AOL 7.0 is
very buggy. First, it's best to try and install AOL 7.0 from one of the
millions of free CDs floating around. Upgrading from AOL directly to 7.0 over
the Internet is know to be unstable. If this doesn't work, you can either call
tech support at AOL until you find someone who can tweak your version (could
take hours), downgrade to AOL 6.0 (you must have CD - look under the plant in
the kitchen ;-)), or get a non-cluttered Internet provider like Earthlink.
Q: You recommended a really cool product about 3 issues ago and I've deleted
your newsletter. Any chance I can get another copy?
A: Yes, you can. Go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisandthatcomputertips/
. Here you can look through issues and do a "search" on the product
you're looking for.

Sony

OS, Color Screen and Built in MP3 player - love it!

iPod (by Apple) -
5 G - $399 vs. Roq-it
(by
D-Link) 10 GB
- $189
http://www.apple.com/ipod/
http://www.dlink.com/products/multimedia/dmphd610/
Hmmm... D-Link is $210 cheaper then iPod, runs on USB (which everyone has),
runs on Mac & PC, holds 2 times more music then iPod, has replaceable hard
drive (uses standard laptop hard drive), and comes with remote control. Both
weigh about the same and come with rechargeable lithium batteries. iPod looks a
bit cooler. Advantage: D-Link!
