HUGE Web Browser Vulnerability with Macromedia Flash

Over 90% of computers have a program called Flash which allows people to see cool movies and intros to web pages. There has been a discovery of vulnerability in Flash, which allows malicious coders to do 2 things:

1)      Run malicious code on Windows and Unix/Linux machines meaning just going to this website could erase your hard disk.

2)      When you go to a website with this malicious code, a person could read your hard drive.

To solve this problem, go her and get the FREE updated Flash Player: http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download

Protect Your Data: Anti-Virus & Firewalls

Many of you out there think you’re totally prepared against computer attacks if you have the anti-virus software that came with your computer. This is not the case. New viruses are unleashed on the computer-using public minute/minute, every day, 7 days a week, of various strains. You need Anti-Virus software and you need to update it, MANUALLY, weekly. I still recommend Norton Anti-Virus for both the Mac and PC.

Additionally, hackers are scanning computers, at random, day and night, to see if they can attach themselves virtually to your machine. Once people invade your computer, they can do several things: destroy the data on your machine, take your sensitive data (like bank accounts, passwords and credit cards) and/or launch attack on other computers from your computer. The only way to prevent this is with a firewall. Depending up the degree of confidentiality of the data and your budget, you will either purchase a software (personal) firewall or a hardware firewall or both. I recommend getting both. This issue, we’re just going to talk about personal/software firewalls. Below I list an article on firewalls and several firewall options for both the Mac and PC. Each product has different bells and whistles. Feel free to try them all. My personal favorite is Norton Internet Security. I would not rely on any of the “free” firewalls, as the “paid for” versions are quite a bit more robust.

Hebrew Software

It amazes me how much software there is for other languages. I don’t know why, but it does. Here’s a sampling of the sites for Hebrew. I would love to get your favorite sites for Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Russian, Vietnamese, or any of the other thousands of languages out there. What I’m looking for is 4 links for software that runs on a PC/Mac, which can be used to write in your mother tongue. I’ll include it in future versions of this newsletter!
