Hey everyone,

There’s great news afoot! As you will see, we’ve changed the delivery method of this newsletter to the ad-laden Yahoo! Groups to a stand-alone email program which will make you’re reading experience easier. Let me know if you like the new format. Even greater news – your humble author has made it to his 40th year (Monday, Nov 11th) and hopes to keep on writing for another 40!

http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,106632,tk,dn110402X,00.asp

It has recently been discovered that there is now a way hackers can burrow into you router and use it to hack into other computers. To counteract this vulnerability, g to the Linksys site: http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp and upgrade your firmware. If you’re not sure how to do this, ask someone on our staff to update you at your next visit.

Urban Legends Reference Pages: Computers (FriendGreetings.com)

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/friend.htm

This is an evil SPAM which looks like a virus which comes in the form of a greeting card to you from  someone you know. You get this link to downloads  a greeting card”, you click it and it asks you if it’s okay to install something on your computer. At this point, you should stop the process, hit cancel, and close program. What it’s doing at this point is sending this spam to everyone you know in your Outlook address book. This definitely won’t be the last time this trick is pulled. As always – make sure NOT to every install a program unless you initiated it from the Internet. Follow the removal instructions from onte of the sites above if you got infected.

Movie of the Year Honor’s Go to….

Bowling For Columbine

http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com/

This is the most powerful, thought-provoking, challenging, insightful movie of the year. You’ll squirm a bit, but it’s worth it. Michael shows why America is the civilian/civilian murder capital of the world – amongst European Countries and Canada – who have loads of guns, but choose not to use them on each other (what a peculiar concept, eh?). As my friend Meryl says, “This movie should be shown in every high school across the country.” The Canadian/USA comparisons are dramatic and very enlightening! Go see it today!!

Why America Online Sucks

http://www.aolsucks.org/

Believe it or not, you can get an Internet connection without all the popup ads and flashy stuff you get on AOL. With a clean DSL connection like Earthlink/SBC Global/your local DSL provide or Cable with your local cable TV company, there’s a way to set you up so, all you need to do is click on your email program or your Internet browser and you’re on the Internet. No preset home page. No ads popping up. When you order these products, you now get AOL-like interfaces. These aren’t needed – Just use the simple internet connections provided by the company which are somewhat hidden below the surface. These sites give you reasons to leave and how to leave. If you would like to have a super clean connection without the fluff – call/email us today to get this setup. We’ve already helped hundreds of you do this!
