It's great to see you again - well, sort of.
I guess it's great for you to see me (through my words). We're together again
for another episode of This and That Computer Tips - with some humor, some
education and ways to make your computing life more fun! We event have a cost
savings for DSL at the bottom of this week's
ezine.
Enjoy,
Clyde
This prefaces the next category for a very important reason
- it's an awesome software product that goes to the web and does searches of
many things without ever having to open up your web browser. It has a little
"Find" area where you fill in your term, then a box of popular searches you
might make. Examples of these include Yahoo!, Google, Maps, ebay, Amazon,
New, Business & Personal Phone numbers, movie listings, stock quotes. You
can even go right to a website, send an email or do a spell check with this
little guy. Underneath the drop down boxes are very unobtrusive ads, coupled
with the weather and news highlights. It's an incredibly, cool, FREE
product. From the scuttlebutt I've read, most of the coding is done by a
13 year old in Berkeley, California! Try it and let me know your experience with
it. PC only - but Mac version is on its way.
Web Design,
Web Hosting, Getting your own "name" on the Internet and for
Email
We do it all in regards
to web design: we put you your new site, we update your old site, we host your
site and we can help you establish your personalized identity. This is a crowded
field and we distinguish ourselves by providing many benefits over the standard
shop. First of all, we've had a combined 20+ years surfing the Internet. We know
what works and what doesn't. Secondly, having a business degree and being an
entrepreneur helps me guide you along the path of what will sell. Thirdly, we
must be doing something right as our web design and hosting business tripled in
the past year. Lastly, we have a listed phone number on our site and will guide
you through any sticky issues over the phone which cannot be resolved over
email. Check out our most recent work, our first artist's site, at www.cmcbryan.com .
Christine McBryan from New York demonstrates her classic realism. See samples of

2) If the search engine at a website you like doesn't
work that well, or is too cluttered (microsoft.com, norton.com are examples), do
the following in the google search bar - viruses site:norton.com . This will
have google go to norton.com and search for viruses. Just separate search term
with a space then "site:websiteyousearching.com"

Yahoo!!
I think
Yahoo!, except for it's very sneaky privacy policy explained here, is one of the
best all around Internet Portal sites. It provides a HUGE service to the
Internet community. Yahoo! takes off where AOL has been invasive and
condescending - providing many of the same services for a lower cost or free
(with ads) with a very stable, reliable servers. I'm going to highlight just a
few of the many great services Yahoo provides:
Yahoo! Mail Extra
Storage
https://ordering.yahoo.com/or/ypm/splash?577&Pkgs=us:ym:space&.osig=3Anzm
Everyone knows about free Yahoo! email accounts. Did you
know, for a VERY low cost, you can increase your storage? This will prevent your
mailbox from filling up when I send loads of attachments ;-) You may also get
one large PDF file, which will shut down your email account until your download
it. It's worth a look.
Yahoo! Maps and Driving Directions
http://maps.yahoo.com/
This is a wonderful place to get directions and a map to
where you want to travel. If you have a Yahoo! account, after signing in, you
will not need to enter origin address.
Yahoo! Photos
http://photos.yahoo.com/
With your Yahoo! email account, you get 30 mb of storage of
photos, free of charge. Once you upload these photos, you can share them
with others via email or order prints of them. For a nominal fee, you can go up
to 50 or 100 mb of storage. You can also use this for storing non-photo
files.
Yahoo! Privacy
http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy
I highly encourage people to use fake information when
signing up for Yahoo! and never put your primary email address. Yahoo! by
default, will share your Yahoo! mail address with many vendors. To avoid this,
go into your profile and edit your marketing preferences. Once you change
everything to "no," you'll not get annoying ads in your email.
Yahoo! by
Phone
http://phone.yahoo.com/
For $4.95 a month, you can listen to your Yahoo! email,
sports, weather and stock quotes. You don't have to push numbers - it's all
accessed by voice commands.
Yahooligans - Web surfing for the younger
set
http://www.yahooligans.com/
Friendly web surfing for the younger set of folks. Great
home page - lots of games, ecards, reference sits and more.
SBC Global
DSL - Monthly Price Reduction to $34.95/month
Sent from one of our readers - thanks Ben! We love tips - I
need your help to make this such a great newsletter!
If you want to lower
your monthly DSL Internet fee, call up SBC and tell them you would like to get
the new subscriber rate of $34.95 / month.
You need to commit for a one-year
contract, but that's not a big deal. If they say no, tell them you will go to
Earthlink.
