This and That Technology Tips
New phone number, Skype, Treo, Easy Follow-up System

June 29, 2006
Volume 6: Issue 5

Hey all,

We'll be talking about a few things today:

1.) My NEW phone number!

2.) Skype: the free computer/computer voice service

3.) Treo Class for the Rest of Us

4.) An Easy way to follow-up with business or personal connections.

This T & T is straight to the point! So let's get on with the show....

1.) My NEW phone number!

Those of you who've been with me for a bit know that I change my phone number every few years and it's that time again.  My new office number is 408.732.8500.  The old 408 number is now my home number.   The mailing address remains unchanged.

My updated contact info:
In the Moment Computing
1030 E. El Camino Real, Suite 336
Sunnyvale, CA 94087
Office:  408.732.8500

Please update your database with this new office number.  This the only business number for me so you can delete any other ones you have in your database.  Thanks!

2.) Skype:   the free computer/computer voice service (and much more...day/day)
www.skype.com

Skype works by establishing a Skype account and then downloading a small program from the Skype website.  This program works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Pocket PC phones (unfortunately it does not work on Treo phones hope they fix that soon!).  Next, the call recipient establishes a Skype account.   Then, you can both talk for free using a headset and a computer!

Skype the free computer/computer voice service (and much more)

Skype, which began in 2002, has since grown into a multibillion dollar industry.  Recently, eBay purchased Skype for approximately $4 billion (on the condition that Skype met certain goals).  Currently, there are designs in the works for Skype plug-ins, such as conference calls, desktop sharing, and tons of different phone styles.  Skype is a VOIP system (Voice Over Internet Provider your voice travels over the Internet).  Telephone vendors and networking companies, such as Linksys, have developed Skype phones, headsets, and web-meeting tools. Skype.com has a great new phone which allows you to use the same phone for Skype and regular phone calls (we'll have a review of this phone in a future newsletter).

Some Current Great Skype Promotions

Promo #1
The coolest announcement about Skype (on 5/23/2006) is that if you reside in the US or Canada and you have a Skype account, you can call any phone number in the US or Canada until the end of the year, completely free!!  Skype is doing this to build membership and to promote familiarity with Skype as individual's primary phone service.  If you want to call to another country's phone number (on a non-Skype phone), you will have to pay a small per minute charge.  However, if you call Skype user to Skype user in another country, the call will continue to be free!  How cool is that?!?!
For more details, check it out here: http://tinyurl.com/f9jwr

Promo #2
All US users can make up to 60 minutes worth of calls using a Skype account to dial a non-Skype phone in Canada, France , Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico and the United Kingdom.  Call soon, as this promotion ends June 30th.
So why aren't you saving money by skyping today?

3.) Treo Class for the rest of us

Struggling with your Treo 650 or 700p?
Want someone to walk you through the basics?
After the basics, wouldn't it be great to learn the advanced steps of the
Treo - most importantly - keeping track of email

We had an excellent remote course the week of 6/20/2007 teaching the Treo 600/650/700p to folks. Folks were taught in cities across the United States. I'm still looking for my first non-US student for the Treo Course. The first non-US student (this includes Canada!) who signs up - gets 50% off their registration!  I will be teaching another course the 2nd week of July. If you're interested, let me know and I'll add you to the announcement list and you'll get the first crack at the class.  Send us an email to reserve your spot or contact us through our website www.itmcomputing.com.

4.)  An Easy way to follow-up with business or personal connections!

I like to call this next program "Follow-Up System Extraordinaire!"

Scenario:  You've just met one on one with a potentially big client.  When you return to the office, you think that you would really like to reconnect with this potential client in another way.   Perhaps if you sent them a note, the client would continue to think of you as a resource and seek you out for a job.  Do you just send an email, which will get mired in all the other emails or worse yet - end up in their spam folder?

A better idea would be to send a greeting card via US mail perhaps a couple of cards-- with progressively more and more information about how you can help this new prospective client.  They receive this card with their name on it and they open the card with anticipation.  You include a Starbucks gift card in card #1 (requesting another meeting over coffee), you put a Bed, Bath and Beyond gift card in #2, and a gift card for fine dining in card #3, which asks the prospective client for a final follow-up meeting to talk business over lunch/dinner.

So this sounds like a time-intensive follow-up project, especially if you have multiple follow ups to make every week?

It doesn't have to be.

From the comfort of your office/home, you can now send Greeting Cards With Ease that will arrive in people's US (or any other country's) Mailbox.  No more trips to Hallmark.  No more jaunts to Target/Safeway to buy cards.  Make life easy.  Send Cards with Ease.

Log on to your personal account, fill out a card, attach a photo and/or gift card and then push send. The company I work with does the rest!  They print the card (with your own signature and handwriting), address the envelope, put a real stamp on it and send it via US Mail.  Could it be any easier????
Check out the details: www.sendcardswithease.com

Fill out the online form and let me show you how to send a few greeting cards absolutely free of charge.

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed the ride!
