Top 10 Windows Tech Support Sites

About 99% of the time, I (and my company) In the Moment Computing, can be there for you when you need us. For that rare occasion, when we aren't, or when you just feel like "doing it yourself," we list a few sites you may find helpful when applying for a job with us as a Senior technician ;-)!

1. ITM Computing OB-viously! We have loads of content in both our "Web Tour" and "Ezines" sections.
2. annoyances.org The self-proclaimed "most complete collection of information assembled for and by actual users of Microsoft Windows." These guys really seem to just get it.
3. Ask Dave Taylor You know those questions that feel so simple that you don't even know who to ask, because you feel like you're supposed to already know? Don't feel bad! Dave Taylor will willingly help you with everything from your facebook questions to what to do after you washed your mP3 player in the laundry. The guy just loves to help.
4. Windows Articles and FAQs from the Windows Support Center. Here are some really great articles that are not too complicated to read on issues like "Computer Health."
5. Windows Support Sites includes a thorough list of help sites for Windows95 thru Vista .
6. STOP Error Codes has a complete list of those error messages and the methods to end them. Listed and linked in an easy-to-find numeric listing. Those messages put the "error" in "terror."
7. Gizmo's Tech Support Alert is an online tech support community with forums and a super simple menu help menu.
8. YouTube when you just need to vent. YouTube's your voice on the internet. And sometimes it helps just to watch a replay of that scene in Office Space where the guys go smash-crazy on that old printer. Supportive? Maybe not technically, but some psychologists would agree with me on this one. (Note: Avoid the urge to re-enact!)

9. Microsoft Support Site This site used to be extremely frustrating to use, but it has come a long way in recent years. The search tool specifically is a lot less irritating, because you can filter out a lot of the junk--instead of getting 5,788,320 results. Just give it another chance!
10. Google Books Missing your manual? Check here. Google has an endless list of books, including a lot of Helpers and How-tos like "Windows for Dummies" and "Windows Vista: The Missing Manual." Not only can you read the book straight from your monitor, but you can search for key words in the the texts, too (that's even easier than using the ol' fashioned index from the paper models!).

Come on feel the noise of the IceKube
|
|
I just turned my notebook into an enormous sound system, and it was the coolest D.I.Y. project I have completed since my childhood tree house. Assembling my new desktop/sound system was waaaaaay easier than my tree house. I just plugged it in, replaced the expired battery in the remote, put the IceKube (no freezing needed!) on my desk and BAM!

D.I.Y. is so much easier with this IceKube by IceTechUSA than it was with any of those tools in the garage. I love this little speaker box. You hook it up to iPod, notebook, or any other device that needs sound. You plug it into the wall. You put it on a table or ANY other smooth surface, turn up the volume and be blown away by the sound!! I use it for my iPod and my notebook which has crappy speakers. It's almost like Bose made it. The price is amazing for such a supple sounding device.
This is a must-have for anyone who has ever loved the music so much they wanted to crawl inside the hollowed out space of their speaker. If you set this gadget up on you kitchen counter, that's exactly what I imagined inside of the speaker to sound like.
This compact device employs the newest acoustic vibration technology which produces fantastic sound from almost any solid surface. Mechanical vibrations emanated from the iceKube become vibrating pressure waves, transferring sound to the surface upon which it sits turning it into an acoustic speaker.

Top 10 Travel Sites--Clyde Style!
|
|
1. PriceLine: The best thing to happen to online haggling since E-bay. Seriously, travelers get to negotiate their own price on air-fare. No joke. William Shatner's kung-fu karate chop endorsement doesn't hurt either.
2.SouthWest: OK, so sometimes you really can get a great deal on an airline's website. No really, you can. And since you know you're going to be getting on a Southwest jet, you know you're getting Southwest's service--which is famous in the industry (hence, the reality show that aired on A&E a few years ago).
3. YELP!: If you want the real low-down on the car rental agency, the spa, the hotel, or the restaurant scene at your destination, check out yelp for actual consumer's reviews. (And after your trip, you can rave about your new favorite places...or warn the rest of the world about what to avoid at that funky Indian restaurant.).
4. CraigsList: Maybe you're not looking for the typical hotel experience. Ever heard of housing swap? Maybe you want to see what it's like to live in the town and away from the tourist trap.
5. Travelocity: Convenience is king. One site, three services (flight, hotel, and car), no sticker
shock.
6. Travel Advisor: Get a mini travel guide for any city you go to. Get restaurants, sites, hotels, all in a neat pdf you can print and take with you.
7. RV Traveler: Some people say that it's the only way to travel. I think it's just plain fun.
8. OneSky Private Charters: Arrive in style on San Jose's private jet charter. And we're not talking about those little Cessna island-hoppers with room for four. Rock-star sized jets. (I haven't done this yet personally, but it's definitely on the bucket list.)
9. ReserveAmerica: If you're thinking about turning off your computer for a week and heading out to the great outdoors this summer. ReserveAmerica is THE official site for all National and State parks.
10. Cheap Tickets: I'm a sucker for a good bargain. This is certainly worth checking out if you need to get somewhere on a dime.

Woot, Price Grabber & eBay - Deals of the Day
|
With our battered economy, we want to get the best price for every thing we buy. It's deals, deals, deals! I will be covering this in more detail in future blog posts.
Did you know there are "Deals of the Day" every day with Woot and Price Grabber? There is usually one item (or set of items) which have a great price for only 24 hours.
An example today on Price Grabber has a
Panasonic TH-46PZ80U 46" Plasma TV $897.94

Woot is featuring a Pure Digital Flip Ultra Series F260 Camcorder - $79.99 + $5 shipping (refurbished)

Woot has a brother and sister site as well: WootShirt and WootWine. Who knows what they'll be Wooting next!
In addition to having the deal of the day on Price Grabber, it's a great place for comparison shopping.
I love how the costs include shipping and tax. Note: they don't usually include Amazon in their comparisons, which is oftentimes the low-price leader.
eBay Deal of the Day is a Targus AMP03US Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointer
$12.99
Free shipping. 68% OFF $39.99 , you save $27.00

In the famous words of George W. Bush, "Let's save America. Go shopping."
